Net Zero Urban Renewal

The buildings adhere to core passive solar design principals, enhanced by Passive House Building Standard methods and selection of high efficiency equipment and innovative building systems. Simulation with three different energy modeling software packages all resulted in practically no heating or cooling loads, as demonstrated in the Supplement. In a mild climate, domestic hot water and plug loads are the true challenges, followed by ventilation and lighting. In all instances substantial load reductions were pursued before employing active systems.

The project is designed to accommodate modular construction and take advantage of the significant cost and time savings, quality control and waste reduction possible with prefabrication.
